Still without take off

Day 4 - more of the same.

A Keisuke Honda goal gave Japan it's first World Cup win away from home.

Cameroon were tepid and started without Achille Emana or Alex Song.

Whisper it quietly but Asian teams have so far been way better than the African ones at this tournament.  Could it be that an Asian country could win the World Cup before an African one ?

Similar to South Korea's first goal, Honda was unmarked at the far post.

Another boring game, full highlights:

Italy, as predicted, were pedestrian and went behind to a good goal by Antolin Alcaraz:

...before an unlucky miscue by Justo Villar, allowed Daniele De Rossi to pounce and restore parity.

Italy started without Antonio Di Natale and were limp and unproductive in the attacking third of the pitch. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon went off with a back injury in the second half.

Paraguay played as they usually do, with a tight defence and try to nick one on the break or off a set piece.

Holland was the latest top team to look off the pace as they laboured to a 2-0 nothing win over Denmark that failed to ignite.

The Dutch could not get their passing in gear and everyone's second and third touches were woeful.  Denmark threatened briefly but only had two shots in anger.

Once they conceded an own goal by Simon Poulsen, with a deflection off Daniel Agger, it was curtains.

Dirk Kuyt stole in to nick a late second when Elviro Elia's shot bounced back o the post.

Why is everyone playing so badly.  Is it the ball, the pitch, the temperature, the vuvuzelas ?

Except for Germany, no one has impressed. at all.

There's also some talk about banning the Vuvuzela's.  I can't agree with that.  They bring atmosphere and a local feel.  Leave them be.
