The Youth Files - Italy Part II - The Potential Core

The definitive list to the best young talent in the Italy.

Part I looked at the young players who have established themselves as Serie A regulars. Part II looks at the best up and coming talent from the rest of Italy.

Ever comprehensive, Arjblog runs the rule over the best of the rest, a listing of the youth talent either on the cusp of breaking through or announcing themselves in Italy, all 22 or under:

Frederik Sorensen - Juventus - The 19 year old Danish U-21 international spent an excellent season filling in for the injuries to Giorgio Chiellini and Nicola Legrotaglia, making 12 starts and playing 17 times in 2010-11. Strong aerial ability and solid tackling as re his strengths. Registered one assist.

Alberto Paloschi - Genoa / Milan - Four years after a spectacular debut for Milan where he netted on debut as a raw 16 year old, Paloschi has grown in stature and experience. After a successful loan spell at Parma where he notched 12 goals in 18 games in Serie B, the 21 year old striker spent another season on loan at Genoa where he scored twice in 12 games for the Serie A side. He continues his education back on loan at Genoa.

Michel Morganella - Palermo / Novara - Made 34 starts without being substituted during a successful promotion for new Serie A side Novara (their second such promotion on the trot. Rugged and tough at the back, his physical side saw him pick up 12 yellow cards, the only thing that prevented him from playing every minute. Another Palermo youth player on loan last season.

Gaston Ramirez - Bologna - The 20 year old Uruguayan was entrusted with plenty of responsibility during a trying season for Bologna, playing 25 times and starting 16 games.  With strong performances in midfield, a long career beckons in the middle of the park for the Rossoblu. Chipped in with four goals and two assists.

Daniele Ragatzu - Cagliari - Another 19 year old Italian striker who played 18 times for the Sardinian club last season, coming off the bench for added firepower or in close games. Sent out on loan to Gubbio, he has scored three times in seven games for the Italian U-17 outfit.

Alexander Merkel - Milan / Genoa - Despite making only six appearances for the title winning Milan side, he is highly rated for his excellent technique and solid mental composure during an education picked up at Stuttgart. Will start this season on loan at Genoa where he joins fellow Red Devil Alberto Paloschi.

Khouma Babacar - Fiorentina - The 18 year old attacker played 18 games mostly off the bench and impressed while displaying glimpses of strength, pace and solid control of the ball in tight spaces.  Athletic performances remind one of a younger Obafemi Martins.

Luca Marrone - Juventus / Siena - The 21 year old midfielder played 18 times and scored one goal during a promotion for Siena from Serie B. Possessing a good passing game allayed with lots of running, he has played for Juve since he was a schoolboy and has played 18 times for the Italian U-21 side.

Samir Ujkani - Palermo / Novara - At 23, slightly older than our cutoff but still a pup by goalkeeping standards - the Albanian custodian was sent on loan from Palermo to Novara where he excelled. Played every minute of their promotion campaign and will be backstopping the club this season in Serie A.  Already capped for the national side.

Marcelo Larrondo - Siena - The 21 year old scored six times despite starting only nine games for promoted Siena.  Played a further 12 games as he provided an effective option off the bench. Tall, standing over 191 cm, his heading at set pieces are a real weapon.

Guido Marilungo - Atalanta -  Another 21 year old forward with an encouraging season that didn't set the division on fire. Marilungo scored a pair of goals along with a pair of assists in 16 games. Will ply his trade up front for The Bergamo side who return to Serie A this year hoping to bring his powerful left foot and lightning pace to bear.
