Brazilian Serie A Week 32

It's a dead heat at the top.

With Corinthians and Vasco reversing their results from last week, the 2011 Brazilian Serie A lead is now shared by two teams tied on points and goal difference.

Corinthians went first, and scored a crucial 2-1 win over vistiing Avai. Vasco could only follow up with a goalless draw with Sao Paulo at home. Both are now on 58 points and havea difference of +14. Six games remain. Emerson and Liedson scored the late goals after Avai had gone ahead through Avai.

Santos got round 31 off to a fulminating start on Saturday and they laid an absolute beating on At Para at home. Neymar scored four goals as Santos ran out 4-1 winners to move back into the top ten. Paulo Baier had made it briefly 1-1 just after half time. Santos are on 45 points, 13 behind the league leaders. They will definitely not win the league this season.

Botafogo followed that result up with a 1-0 win over Cruzeiro to get back on the winning track after consective defeats had seemingly derailed their title challenge. Uruguayan marksman Seb Abreu sealed the points with his 12th strike of the campaign. Botafogo remain in third, on 55 points.

Fluminense remained in touch somewhat with a 2-1 win at Ceara that keeps them in fourth on 53 points as Felipe Azevedo's opener for the northern team was overturned by a double from Rafael Sobis.

On Sunday, the teams behind them were in action alongside the two league leaders. Flamengo were dealt a stinging defeat that may have spelled the end to their title challenge. Gremio erupted for four goals in a 4-2 home win over Ronaldinho's team as early goals from Deivid and Thiago Neves were wiped out by goals from Douglas, Ezequiel Miralles and a double from Andre Lima. Flamengo drop to fifth behind Fluminense and remain on 52 points.

They are now just a point ahead of Internacional who picked up an important 1-0 win at At Go with Kleber picking up the game winner. With the win, Inter edge ahead of Sao Paulo into sixth with 51 points. Joining Sao Paulo on 50 points but behind on goal difference are Figueirense, who curiously refuse to go away. Their fourth straight win was a 2-1 defeat of visiting Bahia that keeps them eighth. Diones first goal of the season for Bahia was cancelled by a double from Fernandes.

At Mineiro continue their late season heroics as they seek to escape relegation with a furious finish. Their 2-1 defeat of Palmeiras, who are dropping almost as swiftly as Mineiro rising was their second on the trot and third in four games. This time Neto Berola and Fillipe Soutto gave them a 2-0 lead that was only eaten into by Luan'a late goal. Palmeiras lost for the third time in a row and the fourth time in five games but has both Jorge Valdivia and Mauricio Ramos dismissed.

They are now in 13th, just one spot above Atletico, but five points clear.

Coritiba won 3-1 over America Mineiro at home, to pretty much seal the latter's fate. Rafinha, Davi and Jeci came back to score for Coritiba after Kempes had put America ahead.

America remain rooted to the bottom of the table on 25 points. Avai are four ahead in 19th with 29 points with At Para in 17th with 31. Ceara remain in the drop zone with 32 points, now two behind Cruzeiro.

Borges continues to lead the scoring with 22 goals with four players now tied on 13 goals.
