English Championship Week 11

Leeds and Crystal Palace impress, Nottingham Forest continue to fail.

Leeds United made a surge up the table on Friday night with a comfortable 3-0 defeat of Doncaster as Ross McCormack with his ninth, Danny Pugh, for the second game running and Tom Lees are scored. Fifth on Friday, they settled in seventh place at the end of the round, just hovering outside the playoff places.

On Saturday, with ten games on tap, leaders Southampton stayed in the lead thanks to a good point at Derby in a 1-1 draw while Boro, who were second going into the round, dropped a spot after they were held at home by Millwall, also 1-1. For the Saints, Rickie Lambert scored his league lead tying ninth goal just after an hour to cancel Theo Robinson's opener for Derby. S'oton remain on top with 23 points from 11 games while the Rams drop a spot to fourth.

For Boro, Barry Robson's opening goal was equalised by Liam Trotter just before the hour mark as Boro, although still unbeaten, have now drawn four games in a row. Along with Derby, they were overtaken in the table by a potent West Ham who crushed Blackpool 4-0 at the Boleyn Ground. John Carew and Jack Collison netted either side of a double by Sam Baldock to ensure West Ham ended week 11 in second spot with 21 points, but ahead of Boro on goal difference.

Portsmouth also won as Luke Varney and David Norris goals saw off Barnsley at Fratton Park in a result that steadies Pompey, who had lost two on the trot. An upper table clash between Brighton and Hull ended goalless at Hove as Albion remain in fifth, a spot above their opponents on the day. In all five of the top six drew with The Hammers the only ones to pick up full points.

Elsewhere Reading and Perterborough United were big away winners, defeating Burnley 1-0 and Bristol 2-1 respectively. Reading are now unbeaten in five while United have won three of their last five games. Ipswich and Cardiff drew 2-2 in Wales as Jason Scotland and Michael Chopra's goals came in between opening and closing strikes from Cardiff pair Rudy Gested and Peter Whittingham, off a penalty.

Cardiff remain in ninth with Ipswich tenth. Both were overtaken by a resurgent Crystal Palace side who beat Watford away 2-0. Goals from Wilfred Zaha and Jermaine Easter ensured the trip back from the northwest of London was a happy one for Dougie Freedman's side. Palace improve to 17 points.

Tragedy continues to haunt Nottingham Forest as a Luke Jutkiewicz strike condemned them to defeat at Coventry. While Coventry move out of the bottom five with their first win in five games, Forest are now in the relegation zone, in 23rd spot with eight points, one notch above the bottom. They have lost three games in a row and four of their last five.

Former European Cup winning legend and new chairman Frank Clark as well as incoming manager Steve Cotteril have their work cut out for them. This was a team that was supposed to win the division and at least emerge through the promotion playoffs. Little did anyone think that the new division Forest would play in next season was going to be League One.

On Sunday's lone game, Chris Wood and Marlon King, from a penalty, gave Birmingham City their second win on the trot with a 2-0 victory over visiting Leicester City. Birmingham rise to 15th and have two games in hand on most of the table. Leicester could have reached the the top five with a win but remain in 13th.

Lambert and McCormack lead the scoring charts with nine goals each from 11 games.
