Argentina get their goal on, Greece come back and Mexico send France packing

So it looks like round two of the round robin matches hold more promise than the first round.

After Uruguay thrashed South Africa yesterday, Argentina followed suit with a thrashing of South Korea today.

Argentina dominated and looked good value for their win.  Other than an extra ordinary set of results in the final round of matches, Argentina look set for the round of 16.

Higuain is peaking, Messi is warming nicely, Tevez is grafting and the midfield is getting their passes together.  I was shocked at DiMichelis' brain freeze at the back that allowed South Korea to pull one back, but other than that it was an established, smooth performance.

At World Cup '94 in the USA, Nigeria walloped Greece 4-0.  Greece didn't score any goals, score any points or play in another World Cup till this one.

Predictably they went behind after Kalu Uche's free kick evaded everyone in the box and went in.

Then, something strange happened.  Nigeria's play went off the boil, Sani Kaita got stupidly sent off (Emmy nomination goes to Vasilis Torosidis) and they proceeded to lose the game.

Greece showed tremendous heart but were aided by being a man up and getting the equalizer off a crazy deflection.

Dimitrios Salpingidis got the first with a deflection off Lukman Haruna before Torosidis scored the winner when Enyeama spilled a shot from outside the box.  Harsh on the Nigerian keeper who was, the spill apart, superb throughout.

Mexico finished things off with a comfortable beating of France.

The French were terrible.  Mexico were effervescent and fully deserved their points.  After having cheated their way in, France should be on their way out.  They have brought nothing to the World Cup.

Mexico can play out a goalless draw (I hope they don't) and ensure both make it through.  But with Argentina lurking in the round of 16 both teams will want to finish top.
