The Greatest Show on Earth

No, not the Cecile. B. Mille movie.  The World Cup.

As one of my best friends puts it, The Greatest Show on Earth.

It really is.

As football fans, we, all of us, LOVE The World Cup.  It's so bloody amazing,  So awesome.  Pure Fantastic Ecstacy.

Every four years we look forward to the celebration of he greatest game on the planet. Forget the Super Bowl or the Olympics.

THIS is the biggest sporting event on the planet.

One Glorious Month, The whole world, plays the simplest game on the planet.  Our game.  Football.

When I picture past World Cups, everything seems to happen only in slow motion.  Because everything is an instant classic.

And the same dream we all have, is to one day lift the trophy.  Stand there, in a packed stadium, in the sun.  Sheer Pure Glory.

There are many World Cups in many sports.  But only one is just called The World Cup.  No clarification required.

The best at football, compete against each other, to be the best.

3 billion people watch it.  Follow it, feel the pulsating heartbeat of every move.

Leonidas,

The Battle of Berne,

Pele lobbing over the Swedish defence,

Garrincha skipping past the Czechs,

Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst,

Carlos Alberto's bullet,

Holland scoring right from the kickoff,

Pasarella scoring in Confetti,

Tardelli's vein popping scream,

Maradona, Maradona, Maradona,

Toto Schillaci,

Yordan Letchkov's bald brilliance and Bebeto's Baby,

Zidane's headers and Bergkamp's trap,

Ronaldinho's free kicks and Ronaldo's toe punt finish,

Fabio Grosso
Images. Golden. Forever Etched, Never Forgotten. Eternal

Let the games begin.
Let the memories be made.
